Local Field Assessment inside Multiscale Composite Architectures
نویسندگان
چکیده
We introduce asymptotic expansions for recovering the local field behavior inside multiscale composite architectures in the presence of residual stress. The theory applies to zones containing abrupt changes in the composite microgeometry. This includes the interfaces between plies inside fiber reinforced laminates. The asymptotic expansions are used to develop a fast numerical algorithm to extract local field information inside a prescribed subdomain without having to resort to a full numerical simulation. For regions of homogeneous microstructure, the analysis delivers bounds on the magnitude of the local stress and strain fields inside the composite. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the utility of the asymptotic theory for quickly assessing the location and magnitude of local field concentrations inside complex composite architectures.

On the flexural properties of multiscale nanosilica/E-glass/epoxy anisogrid-stiffened composite panels
In the present study, multiscale nanosilica/E-glass/epoxy anisogrid composite panels were investigated for flexural properties as a function of nanosilica loading in the matrix (0, 1, 3 and 5 wt.%). The surface of the silica nanoparticles was firstly modified with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (3-GPTS). The fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that the organic functional ...
متن کاملOptimal lower bounds on the electric-field concentration in composite media
Composites made from two linear-isotropic-dielectric materials are considered. It is assumed that only the volume fraction and the two-point correlation function of each dielectric material are known. Lower bounds on all rth moments of the electric-field intensity inside each phase are obtained for rù2. A lower bound on the maximum field intensity inside the composite is also obtained. The boun...
متن کاملDynamics of Macro–Nano Mechanical Systems; Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method
The continuum based approaches don’t provide the correct physics in atomic scales. On the other hand, the molecular based approaches are limited by the length and simulated process time. As an attractive alternative, this paper proposes the Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method (FIMM) for computationally and mathematically efficient modeling of solid structures. The approach is applicable to mult...
متن کاملA Molecular Dynamics-Continuum Coupled Model for Heat Transfer in Composite Materials
The heat transfer problem in composite materials has been investigated which contains the nano-scale interface. A molecular dynamics-continuum coupled model is developed to study the heat transport from the macroto the micro-scales. The model includes four major parts: (1) A reverse non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (RNEMD) is used to calculate the physical parameters such as the thermal condu...
متن کاملMultiscale Analysis of Transverse Cracking in Cross-Ply Laminated Beams Using the Layerwise Theory
A finite element model based on the layerwise theory is developed for the analysis of transverse cracking in cross-ply laminated beams. The numerical model is developed using the layerwise theory of Reddy, and the von Kármán type nonlinear strain field is adopted to accommodate the moderately large rotations of the beam. The finite element beam model is verified by comparing the present numeric...
